The MSJC women's volleyball team played a pair of home matches on Tuesday losing a hard fought five set match to Imperial Valley before bouncing back with a four set win over LA Mission.

The Eagles battled back from being down two sets to none Tuesday morning against Imperial Valley to rally and force a fifth and deciding set, before falling in the 5th 9-15.  IVC took control early winning the first 21-25 and then the second 23-25 prior to MSJC dominating the third and fourth with 25-16 wins.  MSJC's Luci Villafana had a huge match for the Eagles as she knocked down 25 kills, had 3 service aces, picked up 20 digs, and had both a solo block and block assist in the loss.  Chanelle Ongchangco had 16 kills, while Alex Sotello passed out a season high 54 assists.  Kayla Thompson and Vianna Allen each had 16 digs.

In their second match of the day the Eagles fell behind 1-0 after dropping the first set 21-25, but then found their footing and won the next three by scores of 25-20, 25-22, and 25-11 to secure the victory.  Villafana and Ongchangco again led the way on offense with 10 kills a piece with Sotello and Natalya Alfonso both collecting 15 assists.  Villafana also picked up a team high 19 digs on defense while Thompson had 13, the team was also strong at the net defensivley as they had 2 solo blocks and 11 block assists.

MSJC is now 4-2 on the season and are right back in action today when they travel to San Diego Miramar for a 5 pm match.  After traveling to LA Mission for a pair of matches with Victor Valley and Citrus on Friday September 17th, the Eagles will return home on Wednesday September 22nd for a 5 pm match against El Camino.
