The West Valley men's water polo team outscored Merced 6-3 in the third quarter, erasing a 5-4 halftime deficit, to capture the 3rd place trophy at today's CCCAA State Championships at the West Valley Aquatic Center. The 12-10 win was the Vikings' fourth of the year against the Coast Conference rival Blue Devils and capped a 23-6 season. Enrico De Munno found the back of the net twice in the third on is way to a team-high four goals. Francisco Vargas, Xavier Domingo and Janet Hernandez had two goals apiece, and Kevan Auger and Nick Butelet each scored one. Keeper Marko Kruska turned away 11 Devil shots. State scoring leader Connor Norton led Merced with six goals.
