Pirates wrap up OEC, undefeated regular season with win over Tigers

COSTA MESA -- The storybook season of the Orange Coast College women's tennis team has reached the dramatic conclusion, but the Pirates are hoping for a long, final chapter after Tuesday's 8-1 Orange Empire Conference win over Riverside City College, giving OCC its 18th straight win (18-0, 6-0 in the OEC).

The Pirates, winners of seven straight Orange Empire Conference titles, dating back to the 2015-16 school year (no titles were awarded in 2020 due to COVID), picked up five wins in six singles matches and were led by Logan Koitka (6-1, 6-2), Camila Nelson (6-2, 6-4), Sedona Smith (6-1, 7-6), Olivia Sipiora (6-3, 6-1) and Leanne Pascua (6-3, 7-5).

It was a clean sweep for Coast in doubles play as the teams of Koitka/Madeleine Veltri (8-1), Smith/Sipora (8-3) and Nelson/Pascua (8-3) cruised to drama-free wins.

It's been an incredible year for the Pirates, who are the state's lone undefeated team among the 39 CCCAA women's tennis programs throughout California. Coast will host throughout the Southern California Regional playoffs and Round 1 will kick off on Tuesday against an opponent to be determined.
