Trailing Sierra 2-1 after the opening round, the West Valley beach volleyball team rode sweeps from its 1's and 2's pairs to whip the Wolverines 3-2 in a wild Big 8/Coast Crossover match Wednesday in Saratoga. Viking 4's Kristen Hayes and Claire Danna came up with a huge 22-20, 10-21, 15-12 win over Grace Lemmo and Kapri Pelle, after West Valley took stright-set losses in the 3's and the 4's. A gutsy 21-16, 21-15 win from WVC 2's Morgan Wright and Kaylin Henderson over Wolverines Meghan Merlino and Kalala Strickland evened the match at 2-2 and set the stage for a showdown between two of the top 1's pairs in northern California. West Valley's Mapuhola Sekona and Emma Blockhus held off Sierra's Savanah Schroeder and Sara Schell 21-13, 21-19 to clinch the match for the Vikings.
