Men’s Soccer Defeats Cerritos on the Road

NORWALK, Calif. - For the first time since October 16th, 2015 the El Camino College men's soccer team defeated the Cerritos College Falcons with a 2-0 win on the road on Tuesday afternoon.  

The Warriors (15-2-1, 6-2-1) locked up the the No.3 seed in the upcoming South Coast Conference Championship tournament and will be host to the No.6 seeded Los Angeles City College on Friday, November 5th. Mt. Sac (13-2-1, 7-1-1) is the No.1 seed and Cerritos College (13-4-1, 7-2) is the No.2 seed with both sides the respective champion of their division.  

Since losing back-to-back games against Rio Hondo and Mt. Sac, the Warriors finished out the regular season strong with a 5-0-1 record and outscoring their opponents 12-to-3.

The Warriors took a 1-0 lead into the half with Haruki Utsumi scoring his first goal of the season in the 45th minute off an assist from Eli Ristovski. The Warriors doubled their advantage in the 80th minute after Mario Carlos scored his 13th goal of the season.

Luis Garibay picked up his 11th win of the season and made five saves for the game.  Garibay earned his seventh clean sheet of the season.

The Warriors will host LA City College in the opening round of the South Coast Conference tournament championships on Friday, November 5th.  If they advance, they will play a rematch with the No.2 seeded Cerritos College next Tuesday. Kick-off for Friday's game is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
