Cuyamaca captures PCAC title

The Cuyamaca College men's soccer team captured the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference title on Friday with a 2-1 win against San Diego City College.  The Coyotes now head to the CCCAA playoffs with a head of steam after finishing the season with three straight wins.

Cuyamaca held a narrow lead over San Diego City heading into the final match of the season on Friday, with San Diego City having a chance to win the title with a win.  It didn't happen, as Cuyamaca held off the Knights for a 2-1 victory, claiming their first PCAC title since 2015.

Cuyamaca trailed 1-0 at the intermission before rallying in the second half.  Daniel Estrada tied the game with a goal in the 60th minute, which was all the Coyotes needed if they were going to hang on for the conference title.  Cuyamaca then added an insurance goal in the 68th minute when Juan Barragan took a pass from Richard Recinos and slammed it into the net for a 2-1 lead.

Cuyamaca is now 11-5-5 overall and captured the PCAC title with a 9-1-2 record in conference play.  The Coyotes are currently No. 15 in Southern California in power points heading into the playoffs.  The California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Regional Playoffs start next week.  The playoff seeds are expected to be announced on Tuesday.
