Women’s Volleyball: Roadrunners bounce back with sweep of Copper Mountain

WHITTIER – Freshmen Jayleen Garcia and Jasmin Miramontes both totaled seven kills each to help lead Rio Hondo College to a 3-0 sweep of visiting Copper Mountain College on Friday.

The Roadrunners dominated the contest from the start, posting a 25-2 victory in the opening set before going on to win the final two 25-8 and 25-14.

Rio Hondo bounced back from a 3-1 loss to Mt. San Antonio College earlier in the week and improved to 3-4 overall. The Roadrunners have won three of their last four matches, all by 3-0 sweeps.

Miramontes added seven aces to her big match while Faith Wada and Amaya Monae Carlos both had five aces each, part of 20 served up by the Roadrunners.

Faith Lee added five kills and Daisy Macias-Cruz led with 18 assists.

Rio Hondo returns to South Coast Conference action on Wednesday (Sep. 28) when the Roadrunners host Cerritos College in a 6 p.m. match.
