SANTA MONICA - The Marauder women's tennis team played well, but unfortunately it was defeated 5-2 at the hands of Santa Monica, Tuesday afternoon.
Jaime Jones was the lone Marauder to win both her matches after defeating the Corsairs' Susan Talreja, 6-4, 6-4 in the closest match of the afternoon. Jones went up 5-2 in the second set and was broken and Talreja was able to hold serve to cut the lead to 5-4. However, Jones was able to put the set away on her serve.
Jones teamed with Janice Thomas in doubles to defeat Talreja and Amanda Golling, 8-8 (7-3). Jones and Thomas trailed 7-4 but rallied in the set to force a tiebreak.
Thomas played competitively against Golling in singles but was defeated 6-4, 6-3. Viktoriia Belonogova trailed 5-2 in the first set and fought back to even the match 5-5 against Santa Monica's Mina Girit. Girit won the set 7-5 and the second 6-2.
