Hawks Continue Sizzling Start to Season with 11th Win in a Row

Santiago Canyon College Men's Basketball continued its winning ways Wednesday night at Chaffey College. The #3 Hawks defeated the #18 Panthers by the score of 86-78. With the victory, SCC is now 11-0 on the season. Earlier this season, these two teams faced off and SCC came away with an 86-74 victory. Like the first meeting, the Hawks used timely defensive stops and clutch shooting to seal the victory in the second half. The first half of tonight's game saw SCC jump out to a 9-0 lead to start the game. After a timeout, the Panthers used their own 9-0 run to tie the score. The rest of the half was close with neither team leading by more than five points. At the half, the Hawks were up by the score of 47-45. Leading the way in scoring was Paul Vilela with 15 points. Antoine Jenkins scored 12 points, and A.J. Garrity tallied 10 points in the half. The second half was filled with back and forth basketball as neither team could get a comfortable lead. The Hawks trailed by 1 with 8:03 left in the game after two free throws by the Panthers, but quickly responded with an 8-2 run to build a slight lead. SCC finished strong with consecutive stops down the wire and sealed the deal at the free throw line to secure the 86-78 victory. Garrity finished the night with 24 points, including 4 three-pointers. Vilela scored 21 points with 3 threes, and Jenkins scored 16 points. SCC had two other players in double digits as well. Paulo Araujo scored 13 points and grabbed a team-high 6 rebounds, while David Agba finished with 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 blocked shots. SCC connected on 12 three-point shots for the game. The #3 rated Hawks will continue on the road next Wednesday, Dec. 11th as they travel to El Camino College to play their final non-conference game.
