Citrus Pours on the Offense Again

Citrus College exploded on offense for a pair of home victories Friday at the Citrus Tournament.

The Owls defeated East Los Angeles College 22-4 and Chaffey College 16-6 to improve to

Gabriella Terry led the Owls with five goals in the opener, followed by Teghan Miller's four goal and three assist output. Averi Bishop added three goals with Sey Currie, Amanda Herrera, Alyssa Woody and Tamara Holstrom each knocking in a pair of goals. Gabby Orozco and Sophia Leon also got in on the scoring action.

The Owls jumped out to a 13-2 lead at halftime, including a 7-0 second quarter.

East LA tried to limit Citrus' goals and held the Owls to three goals in the third, but the damage was done. Six-straight Owl goals in the fourth secured the 22-4 victory.

Four different goalies played in the cage for the Owls – Samantha Messang, Sabrina Rodriguez, Kate Carlyle and Stephanie Azizeh – to combine for 10 saves.

In the nightcap, Miller scored six goals and dished out two assists. Orozco contributed three goals and an assist, while Terry and Holstrom each had a pair of goals and an assist. Currie and Woody also had a goal in the win.

Miller got the ball rolling with a goal in the first minute of action, but Chaffey responded 30 seconds later to tie the game.

The Owls answered back and scored four unanswered goals to jump in front 5-1 after the first. Miller, Orozco, Holstrom and Terry all found the back of the cage in the quarter.

Citrus had another big scoring quarter in the third to increase its lead to double-digits, 14-4. After the Panthers capitalized with just under five minutes to go in the period, Currie sparked a 4-0 run with Miller striking twice and Orozco capping the scoring spree with less than 10 seconds left in the quarter.

Terry sealed the 16-6 victory with a goal in the final 20 seconds of the game.

Mia Pfutzenrueter made five saves in the cage to help the Owls come out on top.

Citrus continues the tournament Saturday against the University of Redlands.
