Compton, Calif. – Sophomore Marceya Vernardo scored the winning shot bringing the Tartars (5 – 3) to a 52-51 victory over the Chaffey Panthers (4 – 3) Wednesday evening.

Sophomore Andranae Powns led the team offensively with 19 points put on the board and four assists. Sophomore Niea Ulmer led the team defensively with a total of 18 rebounds.

The Tartars started the game playing on top and maintained the lead up until the sixth minute of the third quarter. The team then struggled to regain the lead but pushed through the second half. Vernardo put the team ahead of the Panthers once again by making two free throws in the last few seconds of the game.

Women's basketball will play at home against the University of La Verne on Thursday with a 6pm tip off.
