SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – In the first game on the Vaqueros' new home field, the SBCC women's soccer team came out firing and never slowed down to hand Taft its first loss in a 6-1 blowout.

Santa Barbara improves to 2-1 on the year while Taft falls to 3-1.

"The women were great today and showed a real togetherness after a tough weekend," head coach John Sisterson said. "Fantastic win and it was great to be back at our stadium and on the brand new turf field."

It didn't take much time for the fireworks to start, as the Vaqueros found themselves up 3-0 within the first 13 minutes. Midfielder Delaney Kenney opened the scoring in the second minute off an assist from forward Theresa English.

It was the first of three assists for English, who soon after would tally her second of the day to setup midfielder Savannah Mohatt in the ninth minute to go up 2-0.

In the 13th, it was defender Julianna Alaniz finding forward Monica Pizano to make it 3-0. The Vaqueros ended the first half with 14 shot attempts, more than their entire previous match against Hartnell (13).

SBCC found paydirt once more in the 66th minute, as forward Abby McCann found Hannah Mclain for the Vaqueros' fourth goal of the day. Pizano would secure the first hat trick of the year with two more goals over the final stretch.

Her second score came in the 79th, as Kenney notched her team-leading third assist through three games. Just six minutes later, English matched Kenney atop the SBCC assist charts with her third helper as Pizano put away the sixth and final goal of the day for the home side.

"Good to see us bounce back today," said Sisterson. "Monica played fantastic today and it was good to see her get a hat trick and Theresa with three assists. Everyone involved played a big part today with high energy and team spirit and we look forward to our next home game on Friday."

The Vaqueros will face Fresno this Friday at 2:00 p.m. in the second of their three-game homestand.
