Women’s Tennis Wins Third Straight Match

It was a windy day on the campus of Riverside City College as the women's tennis team hosted the El Camino College Warriors in non-conference play. With the Warriors claiming victories in the top singles and doubles positions, it was the remainder of the Tigers lineup that carried the weight leading to a 7-2 victory.

Sophomore tandem Hannah Stevenson and Monica Madrid experienced another strong showing both as a pair and individually. They teamed up as the number three doubles squad and worked to an easy 8-0 victory.

Stevenson followed in the fourth singles position and worked a two-set victory at 6-2, 6-3. Madrid battled out a three-set victory despite dropping her first set with scores reading 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore Torrey Mateljan worked a victory as the number two singles position. She breezed through the first set, 6-2, and won a tiebreaker in the second set, 7-6 (5).

Freshman Keeley Arendt and sophomore Miranda Cardenas handed Riverside a victory as the number two doubles team by the final score of 8-0. The duo is undefeated thus far.

Riverside (3-0) will continue action on Friday, February 7 at the Jaguar Invitational hosted by Southwestern College.
