SOFTBALL: SOPHOMORE DAY WIN

SOFTBALL: SOPHOMORE DAY WIN

The Lady Hornets celebrated Sophomore Day by grabbing their 33rd win of the season with a 13-1 win over Orange Coast College on Wednesday.

Today's 5 inning win marks the 11th time this season where the Hornets have imposed the mercy rule.

The FC softball squad had eight sophomores who were recognized by the Hornet coaching staff before the start of the game. Sabrina Anguiano, Veronica Garza, Kaylee Williamson, Lulu Vasquez, Anabel Mendez, Desiree GuzmanCamille Greene, and Dani Rico were all escorted onto the field by their families as they lined up to play their final home game of the regular season.

Fullerton's win gave them a second place finish in the final Orange Empire Conference standings with a record of 17-4 and an overall record of 33-6. The Pirate loss locked them in at 6th place in the OEC with a record of 7-14 and an overall record of 20-19.

FC did not waste any time in this one scoring 5 runs in the first inning. Veronica Garza got it started by rocking a double to left center, and Kaylee Williamson (3 doubles on the day) knocked her in with a double to left center. Khloe Lilavois (3 hits) saw the trend and kept it going hitting a double to left center that plated Williamson. Sarah Rengifo liked what she saw and copied with a double to left center that scored Liliavois. With the bases loaded, Camille Greene worked the count for a walk scoring Rengifo. Sabrina Anguiano (3 RBI) got in on the action ripping a single through the left side that brought Anabel Mendez home.

In the second inning, the Hornets matched their previous scoring output scoring another 5 runs on OCC. Mendez earned her second walk  of the day with bases loaded bringing Williamson in. Desiree Guzman hit a nice shot to left field for a single giving Rengifo and Lulu Vasquez the chance to score. Anguiano did more damage doubling to center field and two runners scored in Guzman and Mendez.

The Pirates managed to get a run across in the third on a walk by M Taylor that forced J Michaels home with the bases loaded.

FC got two more runs in the bottom third on a single by Clarissa Hernandez that scored Lilavios. A wild pitch gave Jessica Alcala the opportunity to cross home plate.

In the fourth, Lilavios put up the game's final run punching a ball up the middle allowing Williamson to score from second.

Starting pitcher Lulu Vasquez (18-2 overall) earned the win throwing 5 innings of 3-hit softball. She had a run against, 4 K's and 4 walks.

Up Next: Fullerton (33-6 overall, 17-4 conference) will wait and see who their competition will be for the postseason. Stay tuned for more information as the seeding meeting is this Saturday.
