Warriors Stay Unbeaten in Conference with Dominant Fourth Quarter against Cerritos

TORRANCE, Calif. – El Camino College overcame an eight-point deficit late in the fourth quarter and went on to score a 57-53 South Coast Conference, South Division victory over Cerritos Wednesday night at the ECC Gym Complex.

Alexia Mason had one of her best games of the season as she posted a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Warriors (8-12, 3-0). Ashley Nguyen added 13 points and Taylor Hart scored 10 while Kourtnie Smith grabbed 10 boards to aid in the victory.

For the Falcons, Mariah Lora led the way with 14 points and five rebounds and Therese Zekajj paced the team on the boards with 10 rebounds.

The game was close in the first half and featured six ties with 11 lead changes overall. Cerritos held a 31-30 advantage at halftime and then outscored ECC 16-8 in the third to take a nine-point lead into the final 10 minutes. But ECC shut down the Falcons in the fourth, holding them to 17.6 percent shooting (3-for-17) en route to winning the quarter 19-6 and taking the game by four points.

The Warriors scored their third straight conference win despite leading for just 8:21 of game action. They will look to stay unbeaten in conference play when they travel to L.A. Southwest on Friday evening. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
