Baseball Wins 5-1 Over Monterey

Freshman Alex Escobar (Central Catholic, Modesto) pitched a complete game six-hitter to lead the Reedley College baseball Tigers to a 5-1 victory over the Monterey Peninsula College Lobos last Saturday afternoon in Reedley.

The win broke a five-game losing streak for the Tigers, who took a season record of 2-10 into a Tuesday, Feb. 26 rematch at home with Gavilan College. Gavilan recorded a 10-4 win over the Tigers on Feb. 18 in Gilroy.

Reedley remains at home on Thursday, Feb. 28 for a 2pm matchup with Modesto Junior College before going to Modesto for a 1 pm Saturday contest with the Pirates, weather permitting.

Central Valley Conference action begins for Reedley on Tuesday, March 5 A's the Tigers host Porterville College at 2pm.

Deagan Risnes and Henry Degnan were the hitting stars for Reedley against a 7-7 Monterey squad. Risnes drove in three runs with two singles and a double while Degnan added a double, a single and two RBI. Catcher Danny Gamez contributed a pair of singles.

Reedley had dropped a wild 11-10 contest at Monterey on Thursday despite two home runs and a single by Risnes, a freshman from Lake Arrowhead. Risnes led off the game with a home run before hitting a two-run shot in the ninth. Hans Brown's two-run single gave Reedley a 3-0 lead in the second before MPC took control with a four-run sixth inning rally.

On Friday in Reedley, a Tiger rally in the ninth inning fell short in a 10-9 loss to DeAnza. Reedley made five errors in the loss, resulting in three unearned runs. Mitchell Crawford drove in three runs for the Tigers.
