Late Goal Moves Spartans By Rio Hondo

Men's Soccer Team

In their second game of the week the MiraCosta men's soccer team had yet another regional powerhouse in front of them.  On Saturday morning the Spartans took on Rio Hondo College, a team that came off a 4-1 win over San Diego City College the day before.

Both teams looked strong with opportunities on the goal, however at halftime the score was still 0-0.  Defensively the Spartans looked strong with Seth Ketterer in goal and Manuell Kariuki leading the defenders.  Also providing strong defense was Scott Jones and Marley Arreola

The second half continued much like the first. The two teams were evenly matched until the 75th minute when Spartan forward Cooper Higgins scored the game's only goal from an assist by Jose Sanchez.  After the goal MiraCosta still had to defend for fifteen minutes, surviving three separate pentaties that led to free kicks for the Roadrunners.  In the 80th minute Ketterer came up with a timely save that helped solidify the win and move the Spartan overall record to 1-1.

Next up for the Spartans is Santa Monica College on Friday, September 6th at home. Kickoff will be at 11AM.
