Juilland-Johnson pours in 34 in 93-84 loss to Cuesta

Adrian Juilland-Johnson tossed in a season-high 34 points on Saturday but SBCC still came out on the short end of a 93-84 men's basketball decision to Cuesta at the Sports Pavilion.

Juilland-Johnson, a 6-3 freshman from Redwood City, scored 34 points in 36 minutes off the bench. He made 12-of-19 from the field, 2-5 from 3-point range and 8-8 on free throws. Johnson scored 20 in the second half on 8-11 shooting.

The Cougars (10-14, 4-4 WSC North) took a 38-33 halftime lead, then edged the Vaqueros 55-51 in a score-happy second half. SBCC shot a blistering 61.3% in the second half (19-31) and Cuesta was nearly as good, hitting 59.3% (16-27).

Cuesta knocked down 12-30 on 3-pointers while the Vaqueros were 7-16.

Carlos Arevalo added 14 points, Joseph Holden had 13 points and five rebounds and Peterson Wotkyns contributed 12 points and five boards.

The Vaqueros had just 10 turnovers and Cuesta committed only six.

The Cougars had four players between 18 and 22 points. Jacques Safra hit 9-12 shots and led Cuesta with 22 points. Stef Korfas added 21 points and eight assists off the bench.

SBCC will travel to Hancock next Saturday for a WSC game at 5 p.m.
