Renegades Win in Return to Memorial Stadium

Renegades Win in Return to Memorial Stadium

Thirty-seven years after playing his last game as a member of the Bakersfield Renegades football team, R. Todd Littlejohn led his Renegades team into BC's refurbished stadium Saturday evening, this time as BC's new head coach, just the 11th in school history. After the 2020 season was cancelled due to the pandemic, BC's first home game in 665 days was a successful return as the Renegades defeated El Camino 24-13.

The Gades scored first on a two-yard touchdown run by freshman running back Zachariah-Au Hawkins with just over nine minutes on the clock in the first quarter.  El Camino got on the board via a safety on a blocked punt in the second quarter. BC then went into the locker room with momentum as freshman Peter Delis was successful on a 39-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.

In the 3rd quarter, El Camino tied the game at 10-10 on a 1-yard TD rush and a successful two point try. The Renegades then outscored the Warriors 14-3 in the fourth quarter for the final margin of victory, highlighted by sophomore Jalen Blizzard's crowd pleasing 90-yard kickoff return that followed an El Camino field goal.

Although the Warriors (1-1) had the statistical edge on offense as well as six sacks on defense, BC's defense was able to keep the Warriors in check for the remainder of the game.

BC, now 2-0 travels to Golden West College in Orange County for an afternoon game (2pm start) this coming Saturday, September 18th followed by another road game at Mt. Sac College on September 25th. The Renegades return to Memorial Stadium Saturday October 2 to take on San Bernardino Valley College at 6pm.
