Citrus Grabs First Win of the Year

Citrus College had a busy first day at the LA Mission 2nd Kickoff Classic Friday with two matches but capped the day on a positive note. The Owls dropped a 3-0 (25-20,25-16, 25-22) loss to Cypress College in the morning before grabbing a 3-1 victory over Fullerton College (22-25, 25-10, 25-11, 25-14).

With the split, the Owls sit at 1-3 on the year.

In the first match of the day, Sabrina Evangelista led the Owls with seven kills and had a team-high 12 digs. Alexis Aguayo followed with 11 digs, while Vanessa Marquez had 16 assists.

After a rough first set, the Owls turned things around against the Hornets. Evangelista had a stellar match, posting a double-double with 14 kills and 14 digs. She finished the match hitting .316 and had six service aces. Gabriella Aguilar followed with nine kills on a .389 hitting clip. Caren Stone and Vanessa Marquez also had double-digit digs, posting 13 and 12 digs, respectively, while Marquez finished with a career-high 33 assists.

The Owls turn right around for the second day of the classic, taking on MiraCosta at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Citrus will play again at 6:30 p.m. to close out the tournament.
