WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: MAULING THE MARAUDERS

The FC women's basketball team played host to Antelope Valley College on Saturday and handed the Marauders a 76-61 loss.

The non-conference win brings Fullerton's overall record up to 5-3, while the AVC defeat lands them at 3-6 overall.

Fullerton did not hold back in the opening minutes as Moriah Serrano let two three-pointers fly putting FC up 6-0. By 4:07, Antelope Valley forced an 11-11 tie on a layup by Niyah Page, but by the end of the first quarter Fullerton owned a 17-16 edge.

A three-pointer by Sydney Nekola put the Hornets back on top 20-16 to begin the second quarter. From there, Fullerton went on a 9-6 mini-run giving FC a seven point lead (29-22). As the final seconds of the first half ticked off the clock, AVC fouled Tatianna Zazuetta and she knocked down one of her two free throws ending the half with a 30-22 lead.

Fullerton came into the third quarter with a hot hand going on a 17-10 run. Shenise West's jumper capped it of giving the Hornets a 47-32 lead at the 4:32 mark. AVC did not give up without a fight as they climbed back into the game getting within seven points by the start of the fourth quarter.

The Hornets finished out the game in strong fashion grabbing their largest lead of 19 with 5 minutes left in regulation (65-46) on a jumper by Angela Zendejas.

Sydney Nekola had her best game as a Hornet scoring 13 points off the bench for a team high. Moriah Serrano and Janelle Ramos both followed up with 12 points each. Ramos also added 7 rebounds. Celise Moreno came off the bench to score 10 points, with 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. Three Hornets contributed 7 points in Katie Salas, Tatianna Zazuetta, and Angela Zendejas.

Up Next: The Hornets (5-3 overall) will play at the LA Valley College Buddy's All-Star Classic December 13-15. They will open up against Ventura College on Friday Dec. 13th. Tip off is at 3:00 pm.
