Softball Beats Chaffey, Will Host Super Regional!

Mt. SAC Mounties Softball dominates #15 seeded Chaffey College Panthers in Regional Round 1 playoffs to advance to the Super Regional's being hosted by #2 seeded Mt. SAC starting next Friday.

Mt. SAC Pitcher, Emily Seidel, opened game one striking out 8 and allowing only 3 runs helping the offense win the game in 6 innings with a score of 11-3 (Run Rule).  Caitlin King (2 for 4), Vanessa Bracamonte (2 for 2) and Kimberly Hernandez (2 for 2) combined for 6 hits as Bracamonte put the first Mounties run on the board with a solo homerun to left. Stefania Aradillas singled to start off the 2nd inning and Emily Seidel homered to bring the score to 3-0. With a 4-0 lead in the 3rd,  Chaffey's Lauren Avila (SS) homered to deep centerfield to bring the score within one run for the Panthers. This began a 6-run rally in the 5th for the Mounties, as Chaffey pitcher, Morgan Hoare, walked both Alexandrea Simmons and Vanessa Bracamonte.  Alendrina Pichardo grounded to short, but the ball was bobbled, loading the bases for the Mounties with no outs.  Holly Mooring singled to drive in 2 runs to put some security on the board, followed by Mounties 2nd baseman, Kim Hernandez who doubled to bring in 2 more. Emily Seidel shut down the Panthers offense in the 5th and 6th to close out and walk away with the win.

Sundays game opened up with Mt. SAC scoring 6 runs in the first, but it was quickly answered back by Chaffey's 6-run bottom of the first hitting spree.  Mt. SAC combined for a total of 24 hits against Chaffey with hits by Caitlin King (SS, 2 for 3 with a Homerun), Alexandria Simmons (LF, 4 for 5) Vanessa Bracamonte (3B, 4 for 4), Stephania Aradillas (RF, 4 for 5), Amber Whiteman (1B, 3 for 3), Emily Seidel (Relief P, 2 for 2), Kim Hernandez (2B, 3 for 4).  The Mounties battery in game two was opened by pitcher Denise Gonzales and catcher Marisa Ayala.  Gonzales,  who's record was 9-0 going into today's game for the Mounties, also contributed with an RBI hit to drive in a run in the third.  Mt. SAC's offense again engaged the "run rule" to a 21-12 score to complete the best of 3 series 2-0.
