SBCC will open its 2014-15 women's basketball season on Saturday when it travels to Bakersfield for a 3 p.m. game.
Five players return from last year's 11-15 edition. Darla and Andrea Morales, twin sisters from Pacifica High in Oxnard, played in all 26 games as freshmen. The guards averaged 5.6 and 5.2 points, respectively. The other returners are also guards – Mizhrua Bautista, Victoria Jackson and Sylvia Hoover-Purter of Santa Barbara High.
Sandrine Krul is entering her 11th season as head coach. She's 182-123 overall and her team has a graduation rate of 97 percent in the last seven years. All five starters from last year received scholarships to Eastern Nazarene in Boston.
The Vaqueros will host two tournaments in November – the SBCC Crossover on Nov. 14-15 and their eight-team MTXE Tournament on Nov. 20-22. The Vaqueros will play Fullerton (7 p.m. Nov. 14) and San Diego (5 p.m., Nov. 15) in the Crossover tourney.
