Cabrera, Bautista Each Net Two as Warriors Trounce Corsairs

TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College got some help from its opponent early on Friday afternoon but the Warriors eventually found their offense en route to a 5-0 victory over visiting Santa Monica at the ECC Soccer Field.

It was ECC's first game at the ECC Soccer Field since Oct. 29 against Pasadena and the first game on campus since Nov. 26 against Orange Coast in the second round CCCAA SoCal Regionals, which was played in Murdock Stadium.

Andy Cabrera and Brandon Bautista provided the bulk of the scoring for the Warriors (3-0-0) and the defense did not allow the Corsairs (1-1-0) to get a single shot on target against sophomore keeper Luis Garibay.

Mario Carlos, Brandon Galindo, Joshua Aguilera and Brian Park all recorded assists for the Warriors as the team outshot the Corsairs 21-0.

The scoring opened in a fluky manner for the Warriors as Carlos sent a ball into the box on a cross in the 12th minute. A Santa Monica defender then bowled over his own goalkeeper and the ball bounced off the humanity scattered on the field and into the net to give ECC a 1-0 lead.

Not much else happened offensively for either side the rest of the half but a big moment came in the 43rd minute as Santa Monica's Luis Heredia was given a straight red card after fouling Eli Risvoski on a Warriors' free kick attempt.

The second half was all Warriors as they scored three of their four goals in a 10-minute span. It all began in the 71st minute as Bautista was the recipient of an excellent through ball from Carlos. The pass sprung Bautista up the left side of the box and he fired a left-footed dart past the keeper for a 2-0 advantage.

In the 79th minute, Bautista completed his brace after he stole the ball directly from the Corsairs keeper and deposited it into the back of the net for a 3-0 lead.

It was only 59 seconds later that Cabrera got in on the fun, taking a high pass from Aguilera and dribbling up the right side before firing a right-footed strike into the back of the net for a 4-0 lead.

In the 88th minute, Cabrera got his brace to cap the scoring and keep the Warriors undefeated on the season.

The Warriors will return to action on Sept. 10 back the ECC Soccer Field when they face off against Moorpark. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
