Veloz hat trick leads Long Beach to 5-0 win over Mesa

Veloz hat trick leads Long Beach to 5-0 win over Mesa

Long Beach, CA - The Long Beach City College Vikings clashed with the Olympians of San Diego Mesa on a sultry Tuesday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium.  In a stadium sans spectators, the Vikings cruised to a 5-0 win behind three first half goals by Allison Rose Veloz, a sophomore from Arizona.

Freshman Alieza Vargas Deason added a goal of her own at around the 75th minute in the second half.  Coach Eduardo Nunes was most impressed by her play this afternoon, emphasizing "Her goal was all her.  She started it off coming back on defense...She won that ball, she got the attack going."

Freshman Midfielder/Defender Alicia Yepez put the finishing touches on the game with a goal off of a rebound at about the 85th minute.

Holding a team scoreless that went to the State Finals in 2019 is no easy feat, but the defense led by freshman defender Milla Miguel accomplished just that. "She makes it easier for our back line to clean up.  She really does the work in the middle.  She does it early, so that it's easier for everybody else to defend" added Coach Nunes.

There's always room for improvement, with Coach Nunes stating, "We still got a lot to work on."

Long Beach hosts Saddleback on Friday at 1:00 PM.
