LIVERMORE – The SBCC women's water polo team defeated San Joaquin Delta 8-6 on Friday, advancing to the CCCAA State Championship Game for the third time in five years.

The Vaqueros (30-6) trailed by a goal in the first quarter, before a 3-0 run bookended by two Charlize Winter goals gave them a 4-2 lead. The Mustangs (23-4) struck next to pull within one score midway through the second period, but that was the closest they got the rest of the way.

Jenna Olson's third and final goal at the 2:07 mark of the third quarter gave SBCC a commanding 8-4 advantage. The sophomore from El Segundo also added two assists.

Allison Kay also put away two goals on the day. She and Megan Ditlof tied for team-high honors with four steals each. Eden Tal scored once to round out the Vaquero goalscorers.

Goalkeeper Chloe Mckay was excellent once again, reaching double-figures for the third straight game with 10 saves. She also tallied two steals.

Santa Barbara will be in action for the second straight day Saturday to face West Valley in a battle of No. 1 seeds for the 2021 CCCAA Women's Water Polo State Championship. This will be the fourth time the two teams have met in 2021. Each of the previous three meetings were won by the Vikings.

The championship game is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. at Las Positas College.
