Men’s Basketball: Roadrunners fall 78-63 to Compton

Rio Hondo College's Aaron Patterson, Johm Mims, Bryant Howing, and Kameron Hobbs all scored 12 points each, but a 9-0 run by Compton College late in the first half proved costly in a 78-63 Roadrunners' loss to the Tartars in Compton on Friday night.

Compton led from the start of the contest but a pair of free throws by Patterson with 2:35 left in the opening half got Rio Hondo within one point at 23-21.

But the Roadrunners had trouble maintaining possession, turning the ball over five times over the final moments of the half. Compton scored nine unanswered points to take a 32-22 lead into the break. The Roadrunners couldn't get any closer than a 10-point deficit in the second half.

Rio Hondo shot just 33 percent (21-64) from the field for the contest and made just 5 of 25 three-point attempts.

Patterson added 7 rebounds and three assists, Mims had six rebounds, Howing added 3 steals, and Hobbs also totaled 7 rebounds to go along with their team-high 12 points.

The South Coast Conference interdivision loss dropped Rio Hondo to 3-13 overall. The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday (Jan. 8) when they host Long Beach City College in a 6 p.m. SCC crossover game.
