A beautiful Saratoga spring day was the perfect setting for the West Valley beach volleyball team's 2021 home opener against the College of Marin. The Vikings held off the Mariners, one of the most improved teams in the CCCAA, in match one for a 3-2 win, and then found their groove for a 5-0 sweep in match two.

Wave one in match one had the teams tied at 1-1 after WVC 2's Della Trimble and Renee Martin swept Marin's Rachel Reher and Natasha Saccardi 21-13, 21-9, and COM's Dayna Riggio-Kerley and Kailani Kwan-Sy stopped WVC's Sydney Rogers and Ailish O'Deegan 21-18, 21-19 in a hard-fought 3's battle. The Viking 6's pair of Belen Morgan and Kelly Mahoney defeated Aaliyah Langord and Natalie Re 21-17, 21-13 in a first wave exhibition match.

West Valley clinched the match with a 2-1 showing in the second wave. Viking 1's Taylor Tullo and Katie Kishton dominated Marin's Jade Williams and Riley Geary 21-12, 21-10, while 3's Elia Dueñas and Alina Valenti took care of Haleigh Brown and Karissa Moya 21-13, 21-10. Marin's Naia Nahini and Riley Brown and West Valley's Alexandra Bergantz and Keilli Voss battled in a tense 5's match, with the Mariners taking the 17-21, 21-18, 15-12 win.

Match two was all West Valley. 2's Trimble/Martin swept Reher/Saccardi by twin 2-15 scores, and Rogers/O'Deegan blanked Riggio-Kerley/Kwan-Sy 21-16, 21-18 in the 4's. Morgan and Monika Martinez-Leon won their 6's exhibition contest 21-8, 21-10 to close out the first wave.
