Women's Water Polo: Sophomores Take Care of Business In Ventura Win

Citrus Women's Water Polo hosted Western State Conference rival Ventura College on Wednesday at the Citrus Aquatics Center. The Owls won the game 10-8, maintaining their #2 spot in the conference. 

The Owls celebrated Sophomore day before the match in festivities that honored the dedication and contributions they made during their tenure at Citrus College. Sophomores Dynalee Huerta, Samantha Godinho, Francesca Vargas, Cameron Schween, Keylee Burke, Angelica Espinoza, Taylor Marquez, and Kortney Molle all were honored in the pre-game festivities. Coach Jen Spalding gave the nod to her veterans, as they started and played the majority of the match as a group. 

Cameron Schween led the way offensively for Citrus, scoring half the team's goals (5) and pitched in an assist and 3 drawn ejections. Freshman Lauren Olivier scored a hat trick, netting 3 goals, dishing 2 assists, notching a steal and drawing an exclusion. Angelica Espinoza rounded out the scoring for the Owls with 2 goals. 

The Owls improve to 15-5 overall in 2019, with a 4-1 conference record. Citrus currently resides in the #2 spot, right behind undefeated Santa Barbara. The Owls take to the pool again Friday and Saturday as they host the Citrus Invitational Tournament and take on El Camino, East Los Angeles, Chaffey and Pasadena City.
