Softball Capitalizes on Mistakes to Edge Pasadena

El Camino College plated the go-ahead runs on mistakes by Pasadena in a 3-1 South Coast Conference road victory Friday afternoon at Jackie Robinson Park.

The Warriors (9-3, 7-1) scored twice in the top of the seventh inning thanks to a pair of Pasadena mistakes to break a 1-1 tie and eventually take the win.

Six different players recorded a hit for the Warriors and Elizabeth Cortez recorded a complete-game victory in the circle, allowing one unearned run on eight hits.

With the game tied at one in the seventh, Vanessa Romero hit a one-out double to put the go-ahead run in scoring position. That run would come around to score as Diamond Lewis reached on a dropped fly ball in center field. Lewis would then steal third and score on a throwing error by the catcher to give ECC a 3-1 advantage and they never looked back.

Cortez tallied four strikeouts on the day and allowed just one walk in the seventh inning while retiring the side to secure the win.

The Warriors will return to action Tuesday afternoon with a road game at Cerritos. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
