Volleyball Sweeps Solano Classic; Williams Tallies 300th Win

Fairfield, Calif. - Solano women's volleyball head coach Darla Williams tallied her 300th win at Solano as the Falcons swept the Solano Classic, defeating Diablo Valley and Butte on Wednesday evening.

Set scores against the Vikings were 25-11, 25-13, 25-8 and against the Roadrunners 25-22, 25-19, 25-19.

In the first match, freshman Sammy Brown paced all hitters with 17 kills, earning a double-double with 11 digs. Sophomore Kailyn Kaiser counted 13 digs with five aces, while sophomore Anaya Rodriguez tallied six aces with 13 assists and seven digs. And freshman Jeryn Baldonado earned 14 assists, 10 digs, and two aces.

"It was a team effort," Williams said. "Everyone contributed, and we pulled out a win. It was nice to get our first win at home after 18 months off."

Against Butte, Baldonado directed the offense with 21 assists and three aces. Brown chalked up her second double-double of the day with 12 kills and 10 digs with Rodriguez close behind with a solid stat line of nine kills, 11 assists, three blocks, and eight digs.

Kaiser led the backcourt defense again with 16 digs, while freshman Gina Garlick posted four blocks. Sophomore Mylei Moli counted four service aces.

"We came from behind in the first set to pull out a victory," Williams said. "The match was tougher with many rallies and competitive play. After that we stayed strong and never looked back. This was a great win and great challenge. Butte is a very solid team and ranked in Northern California two spots ahead of us."

Solano (4-4) heads to the Delta Tournament next this weekend. The Falcons will play its first match at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 10. The winner of that match will play at 5:30 p.m., while the loser of the match will play at 3 p.m. The tournament spans into Saturday, Sept. 11, and matches for that day will be determined by Friday's matches.
