Owls Grab Two Wins at LA Mission Quad

Citrus College grabbed two wins at the LA Mission Quad on Friday, taking down Mt. San Jacinto in five sets (24-26, 25-17, 22-25, 25-22, 16-14) and LA Mission in four (25-19, 25-17, 18-25, 25-18).

The Owls improved to 4-5 with the pair of victories.

Delaney Tate finished the day with 45 kills and leads the State with 4.76 kills per set.

Citrus had to come from behind twice in the opener after Mt. San Jacinto took the first set 26-24. The Owls responded with a 25-17 second set victory to even the match 1-1, hitting at an impressive .353 attack percentage. Citrus committed just one error in the frame.

The Eagles took the third, but once again the Owls evened the match up with a fourth set win to force a fifth and deciding set.

Citrus was fired up and went 8-for-16 in the final set to take the frame and the match.

Tate finished the match with 25 kills and had 16 digs for a double-double. She also had three blocks. Alexis Aguayo led the Owls with 19 digs, while Evelyn Enriquez contributed 18 digs in the win. Maritza Sanchez moved the offense with 52 assists.

In the nightcap, the Owls took the first two sets to take control of the match early. Citrus boasted a .345 hitting clip in the first and swung at a .385 percent in the second set.

LA Mission battled back and won the third set, but the Owls put the match away in the fourth, grabbing a 25-18 victory to win the match.

Once again, Tate led the Owls with 20 kills, firing on an impressive .474 attack percentage. She also led Citrus' defensive efforts with 10 digs. Enriquez followed with nine digs, while also serving up five aces. Sanchez finished the match with 33 assists.

Citrus hosts a pair of matches this week as Santa Barbara comes to town Wednesday for a 6:00 p.m. match. Mt. San Jacinto and the Owls get going Friday at noon.
