After a rough first half shooting, the San Bernardino Valley College women's basketball team knew it would need to pick up its energy in the second half, down by 13 to Compton College at the Valley Invitational.

And that's what the Wolverines did, pressing the Tartars on defense, forcing mistakes and capitalizing to cut the deficit to only five with 10 minutes left to play.

But foul troubles and not getting shots to fall ended up spelling defeat for the Wolverines, as they fell to Compton 57-50 Sunday night.

SBVC had troubles getting shots to fall all night, finishing shooting only 26.5 percent from the field, including 3-for-33 from 3-point range. But Compton was having just as much troubles shooting, finishing with a 27.1 field goal percentage. SBVC even won the battle of the boards, outrebounding the Tartars 52-45 on the evening.

The Wolverines were led by Jazlyn Jackson off the bench with 11 points, while Madison Fierro added nine and Destiny Alexander had eight, while adding 12 rebounds.

Compton's Andranae Powers led all scorers with 20 points, while center Niea Ulmer added 10 points and 20 rebounds.
