SANTA MONICA, CA – Playing in its third straight road match Friday at Santa Monica, the SBCC women's volleyball team found itself in a close battle early on but was defeated in four sets, 28-26, 23-25, 25-14, 25-19.

Santa Barbara is now 3-6 overall. The Corsairs improve to 5-3 overall.

"We lost a tight match at Santa Monica. They were the best blocking team we have faced thus far this season," head coach Kat Niksto said. "Our passing wasn't up to par which led to our offense becoming fairly predictable."

Sophomore opposite Caroline McCarty shone once again with a team-high 11 kills. It was the seventh time in nine matches that she has led the team in kills. McCarty was followed closely by freshman outside hitter Callie Rule, who finished with a season-best 10 kills.

"We managed eight aces as a team, but we are still missing too many serves, with 10 misses," Niksto said. "We really feel like we let this one sneak away from us, and plan to use it as motivation to prep extra hard for our big next week of matches."

SBCC has a busy week ahead with four matches, starting with Wednesday's home affair against Citrus at 6:00 p.m. at the Sports Pavilion.
