The Rio Hondo College beach volleyball team split a pair of non-conference matches on Friday, beating Golden West College 4-1 before falling 4-1 to Fullerton College at the El Camino College sand courts.

In the Golden West victory, Rio Hondo winners included the No. 1 team of Vania Maciel and Nicole Vasquez, the No. 3 duo of Janine Coria and Ariel Garcia, and the No. 4 squad of Katherina O'Brien and Jocelyn Abad. The Roadrunners earned their final point of the match off a forfeit by Golden West at the No. 5 spot.

Rio Hondo almost earned a sweep, but the No. 2 team of Maya Sanchez and Stephanie Perez were edged in three sets. Sanchez and Perez went on to pick up Rio Hondo's lone win in the loss to Fullerton, beating the Hornets' team of Priscilla Gutierrez and Faith Webb in another three-set battle.

Rio Hondo moved to 1-3 overall this season. The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday (Feb. 26) when they will take on Orange Coast College in a non-conference match at the Newland Courts in Huntington Beach.
