Warriors Head to Team State Championships; Rascon and McCarthy Compete for Pairs

TORRANCE, Calif. --- The El Camino College Beach Volleyball team will head to Irvine Valley College this week to take part in the 2022 California Community College Beach Volleyball State Championships, which run from Thursday (Team) through Saturday (Pairs).

First on the docket, the Warriors will take part in the team competition on Thursday as the No. 3 seed from Southern California. The competition is split into two pools (A and B) with the winner of each pool advancing to the state championship match.

The Warriors landed in Pool B alongside the No. 1 seed from the North, Cabrillo, and the No. 2 seed from the south, Irvine Valley. The Warriors open play against Cabrillo at 10 a.m. and then take on the host Lasers at noon.

The winner of Pool B will face the winner of Pool A, which consists of Orange Coast (S1), Feather River (N2), and San Diego Mesa (S4), at 4:30 p.m. for the 2022 state championship.

CCCAA BEACH VOLLEYBALL PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP (May 13-14)

On Friday, the quest for individual glory begins with 32 pairs teams converging on the sand courts at Irvine Valley to compete for the 2022 CCCAA Beach Volleyball Pairs State Championship.

Among the 32 teams, the Warriors' No. 1 pair of Fayth Rascon and Lauren McCarthy will be in the mix and a part of the afternoon wave on Thursday.

The Warriors' duo claimed the No. 4 seed from the south at the pairs regionals on May 6-7 at the ECC Sand Courts.

Overall, Rascon and McCarthy will be the No. 7 overall seed in the 32-team competition this week and they will open the action as the top seed in their pool. They will face Sophia Jarosz and Austia Mendiola of San Diego Mesa at approximately 12:30 p.m. when the afternoon wave is scheduled to begin.

Rascon and McCarthy will then face Jacelin McKie and Lily Krongold of Santa Barbara on the first available court at approximately 2 p.m. and they'll finish off pool play against Sydnee Rowe and Katherine Gee of Feather River at approximately 4 p.m.

There are eight pools in total and the top two teams from each group will advance to the final round of 16 teams on Saturday to play down to a state champion.
