SBCC had a tough shooting day and Pasadena City took advantage to post a 70-44 men's basketball win in the L.A. Valley Monarch Classic.

The Vaqueros (0-2) turned the ball over 27 times and made just 27.3% from the field (15-55). They also struggled with 3-pointers, making just 4-18 in the first half and 5-30 for the game.

Kile Kleiner, a 6-5 sophomore guard/forward from Hayward, Calif., topped the Vaqueros with 14 points and six rebounds. Sixteen Vaqueros got into the game and Pasadena played 13.

Pasadena (2-3) hit 49.1 percent of its field goals. Anthony Gamboa led the Lancers with 16 points and Patric Panoosi added 15 on 4-7 shooting from the 3-point line.

The Lancers outshot the Vaqueros 53.6 to 37.9% in the first half and took a 42-31 lead at intermission.

"We were only down 34-28 with three minutes to go, then we had three straight missed 3s and a turnover to go into halftime," said associate head coach Devin Engebretsen. "We are a young team and this weekend has helped us learn the areas we really need to improve on in order to compete against athletic teams like the ones we faced this weekend and will be facing in the future."

The Vaqueros will host Cerro Coso of Ridgecrest on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 5 p.m. in the second half of a doubleheader. The Vaquero women will take on Antelope Valley at 3 p.m.
