Cypress Softball with Dominant Wins in Double-Header

Cypress, CA - Cypress softball (4-0, 0-0 OEC) defeated San Diego Mesa (2-4, 0-0 PCAC), 9-2 and the East LA Huskies (2-5, 0-0 SCC), 17-0 at home.

2/3/2023 vs SD Mesa, 9-2

Starting the first inning with excellent defense, the Chargers let no runs go in the bottom of the first. Starting pitcher, Kaitlyn Reynolds,  for Cypress, pitched all 7 innings in this matchup. In the bottom of the first inning, the Cypress offense began to take charge of the game. Cameron Curiel started the Cypress offensive charge by grounding out to first, pushing Emily Rush across home plate and advancing two other people on base. Jaylene Duarte quickly followed that score by running home on a wild pitch from San Diego, and the third run of the first inning was brought home by Lizbeth Gomez

The second inning of the game was just as exciting as the first for the Chargers, San Diego Mesa went scoreless again as Cypress brought home two more runs in the bottom of the second frame. Mikala Jacobsen and Emily Rush were the two Chargers to score in the second. San Diego Mesa challenged Cypress in the top of the third inning by scoring 2 runs, but were quickly shut down, and never scored again. 

Cypress scored four more runs in the fourth innings, bringing them to 9 total runs where they finished the game. The last three innings were scoreless as the Chargers' defense executed perfectly. 

Kaitlyn Reynolds (W, 1-0) pitched 7 innings today, allowed 5 hits, 2 runs, and 0 home runs. Emily Rush led the Chargers in scoring with 3 runs on 2 hits, and was walked twice. Jaylene Duarte and Mikala Jacobsen each scored twice for the Chargers, and Lizbeth Gomez and Mikala Jacobsen each scored one run. Later today, the Chargers take on ELAC at 2PM. 

 

2/3/2023 vs ELAC, 17-0

The Cypress softball squad continued their 4-game win-streak with a crushing defeat of the ELAC Huskies, 17-0. Emily Rush pitched all 5 innings, and allowed only 2 hits on the game throwing 39 strikes on 48 pitches. The first inning put the Chargers on top immediately with 6 runs. Jaylene Duarte, Lizbeth Gomez, Kaitlyn Reynolds, Cameron Curiel, Jaiden Stern, and Ashlynn Ortiz scored for the Chargers. 

The bottom of the second frame brought more runs for the Chargers, with Stern and Curiel both scoring runs. Curiel brought the heat in the bottom of the third inning with a home run, bringing in Gomez and Duarte. Reynolds, Stern, Ortiz, and Kayla Tafolla also scored. Cypress brought home a crushing 7 runs in the third inning. 

The Chargers scored two more runs in the fourth inning, with Tafolla and Ortiz bringing it home. ELAC got one hit in the fifth inning before the Cypress defense shut them down. The game ended after the top of the 5th inning with the mercy rule, making the final score 17-0.

Emily Rush pitched all 5 innings, allowing only 2 hits on 48 pitches. Ashlynn Ortiz and Cameron Curiel each scored 3 runs on 2 hits, and had 3 RBIs. Jaiden Stern scored 3 runs on 2 hits with one RBI.  Lizbeth Gomez, Jaylene Duarte, Kaitlyn Reynolds, and Kayla Tafolla each scored 2 runs total. 

 

UP NEXT: Cypress will be on the road for their next matchup against Cerritos on February 8. First pitch will be at 2:30pm.
