Isabella Gregson threw a 3-hitter on Friday and SBCC blanked San Diego City 8-0 in five innings in its softball season opener at Pershing Park.

It was the first college win for Vaquero head coach Justine Bosio.

Sloane Greeley and Jasmine Manson both went 2-2 and Greeley drove in two runs. The Vaqueros got five hits and took advantage of eight walks and six wild pitches.

Santa Barbara took a 3-0 lead in the first after loading the bases on an error, a walk and a single by Sloane Greeley. Emily Bland scored on a wild pitch, Brandi Almaraz came home on a groundout and Greeley touched home plate on an error.

Gregson, a sophomore from Bishop Diego High, struck out two and didn't walk a batter.

"It felt good to finally step on the field with my team," said Gregson. "All the hard work we have put in paid off in this game and I hope we continue to step on the field this way throughout the season."

Samantha Yanes drove in two runs on RBI groundouts in the first and fourth innings.

"It was great to watch the girls tonight," said Bosio, whose team played the second half of a doubleheader after the Vaquero baseball team beat Napa Valley 10-8. "We came out with a plan and were able to execute it. Anytime you can shut a team out, it's a great day."

The Vaqueros travel to San Luis Obispo to take on Cuesta in a non-conference game on Saturday at noon.
