Women's Soccer Starts Season with a Win

Bakersfield, CA - The Renegades women's soccer team opened up the 2018 season with a home victory at Memorial Stadium on Tuesday night.

In a half that saw many players go down due to different injuries, the scoring started early for the Renegades when Michelle Vargas, assisted by Rhyan Acosta, found the back of the net in the first minute. In the 15th minute Acosta was then assisted by Vargas to put the score at 2-0.

Midway through the first half a West LA player went down and exited the game with concussion-like symptoms. Without the depth to fill the spot, West LA found themselves a player down the rest of the game.

Acosta added another goal in the 29th minute assisted by Jackie Zavala to bring the score to 3-0. Just before the half Emily Lostetter brought the score to 4-0 on a goal assisted by Lisette Garcia.

West LA opened scoring in the second half with thier lone goal in the 60th minute. Bakersfield responded back immediately on an unassisted corner-kick goal from Yesenia Sorto. Emily Lostetter scored her second goal of the game and brought the scoring to a close on a goal in the 80th minute assisted by Lea Mason

Coach Scott Dameron commented after the game, " It's always good when you can score a few goals, espcically the one early in the game first that takes some of the pressure off a bit. It was nice to see some of the connecting we did. First half I thought we really had some of the rythym we were looking for. I think after today we're still looking to put together a better total 90 minutes."

Women's soccer will travel to Pittsburg, CA this Friday (8/31) at 4pm to square off against the Los Medanos Mustangs.
