Spartan Women's Soccer Soundly Defeats Cross Town Rival Palomar

The MiraCosta College Women's Soccer team took the field against their cross town rival and brought their best performance of the year. The Spartans dominated the matc from start to finsih.

In the 8th minute Katy King served a corner kick into the 18 yard box for Angelica Gonzalez to capatalize on for MiraCosta's first goal. In the 25th minute, Zoe Mittlehauser played a ball to Lisette Bahena in the box and  Palomar's defender tripped her, ending in a penalty kick for MiraCosta. Lisette scored the penalty kick and put the Spartans up 2-0.

The Spartans continued to play a complete soccer game with accurate passing and a strong defense until the last whistle. Although MiraCosta didn't score a third goal they kept the pressure on with the attack of Mandy Lara, Liliana Prieto, Karla Gonzalez, and Alondra Herrera. Tatianna Correia, Myla McKeague and Briar Van Slyke also gave the Spartans strong minutes with their assertive play in the back.  Goalkeeper Janette Montanez played all 90 minutes and finished with the shutout.

MiraCosta will next be in action on Friday at San Diego Mesa for a 7PM kick off.
