Beach Volleyball Begins Conference Play on High Note

After facing off against stiff competition to begin the season, the Riverside City College beach volleyball team looked to rebound in the second weekend of action on the road. The Tigers faced off against Orange Empire Conference (OEC) opponent Santa Ana and non-conference competitor Glendale. They worked a close victory against Santa Ana and capped play with a strong win over Glendale.

Sophomore tandem and top team Vashti Elias-Romero and Jasmine Urban cruised to a set of victories. They won each of their matches in two sets and only allowed one of their opponent's set scores to land in double digits. They began with a 21-7, 21-9 win over Santa Ana backed by a 21-8, 21-13 crowning over Glendale.

Freshman Miranda Gates and sophomore Madison Hernandez acted as the number four duo and won each of their matches in two sets. It was a tight spread in a win over Santa Ana as seen in a 21-17, 21-17 score. They handled Glendale with ease by cruising to a 21-13, 21-7 victory.

Sophomore Morgan Spencer was slotted at the fifth position with two different teammates. She teamed up with freshman Molly Spencer for a three set victory over Santa Ana, backed by a two set win over Glendale with freshman Jennea Marie.

The number two team comprised of sophomore duo Sadie Arganda and Robyn Collier chipped in a victory against Glendale at 21-13, 21-7, but fell victim to Santa Ana in three sets.

Riverside (2-2, 1-0 OEC) will host their home opener at Pearce Sports Complex on Friday, March 13 at 10 a.m. against Orange Coast and San Diego Mesa.
