On a cool, foggy Santa Cruz Friday, the West Valley beach volleyball team kept its Coast Conference title aspirations intact with wins over Fresno City and College of San Mateo. The Vikings (14-4, 9-1 Coast) are a match behind Cabrillo (17-1, 10-0) and host the Seahawks and De Anza (5-9, 3-7) in the Coast season finale Friday (4/22).
The Vikings took a hard-fought 5-0 sweep of Fresno City (4-11-1, 4-6) in Friday's opener. Three of the five matches went three sets, with WVC dropping the opening set in two and having to rally for reverse-sweep wins. Keilli Voss and Kate Blackwell dropped their 4's opener 21-16 to FCC's Kelsey Valencia and Carlie Vanek and then took the next two 21-15, 15-8. WVC 1's Katie Kishton and Flor Porras lost their opener 21-19 to Claire Corippo and Jill Penner, before pulling out 21-19 and 15-6 wins in sets two and three.

The late match was equally hard-fought. The Bulldogs (8-6, 6-4) were forced to forfeit the 4's and 5's, spotting WVC a 2-0 lead before any action took place. Taylor Tullo and Elia Dueñas clinched the match a 21-16, 21-16 sweep of CSM's Valerie Bruk and Breanna Evans in the 3's. West Valley's 2's, Camdyn Albrecht and Alina Valenti, picked up their second straight-set sweep of the day, topping Alister Borabo and Naomi Cremoux 21-18, 21-13.
