Men’s Basketball: Roadrunners snap losing streak with 83-77 win at Mt. SAC

The streak is finally over. Thanks to a 23-point effort by Bryant Howing and 18 points from Kameron Hobbs, Rio Hondo College put an end to a 16-game losing streak with an 83-77 South Coast Conference North Division win at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut on Friday night.

Just days after leading the Roadrunners with 21 points against No. 3 state-ranked East Los Angeles College, Howing kept his hot shooting going and played all 40 minutes to pace the Roadrunners in tonight's victory. He made 4 of 7 three-pointers on the night and totaled 4 assists.

The Roadrunners trailed 37-35 at halftime and were down 55-50 at the 14:18 mark in the second half before Howing got a Rio Hondo rally going with a three-pointer. He capped the 12-0 run with a jumper with four minutes later to give the Roadrunners a 62-55 lead that they wouldn't give up for the rest of the contest.

Rio Hondo shot 11 for 18 from three-point range, getting two each from Hobbs and John Mims. Mims closed the game with 14 points and added 5 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 assists.

The win improved the Roadrunners to 4-21 overall and 1-4 in SCC North Division play while Mt. SAC dropped to 6-18 and 1-4 as well. Rio Hondo returns to action on Wednesday (Feb. 12) when it hosts Pasadena City College in a 7 p.m. SCC North game.
