Andreas Fuerst and Pierre Fumat won tight third-set super tiebreakers on Saturday to propel SBCC to a 7-2 men's tennis victory over San Diego City at Pershing Park.

The singles were played first and Arthur Scharff and Taylor Kleine rolled to straight-set wins at No. 5 and 6. Fuerst outlasted Colin Palmer in the No. 2 singles, 6-3, 1-6, (10-8 tiebreaker) and Fumat won a similar match at No. 3 by scores of 6-3, 3-6, (10-7).

The Vaqueros (5-3) led 4-2 after singles, then swept the doubles. The Knights (7-2) started out 7-0, then lost two straight at Ventura and SBCC the last two days.

"We played well on the big points in No. 2 and 3 singles," said coach Nathan Jackmon. "We won all three doubles matches with our No. 1 coming back from a 5-2 deficit to pull it out, 8-6."

Fuerst and Alexander Martin took six of the last seven games to earn the No. 1 doubles point.

The Vaqueros will take 10 days off, then host the Glendale Vaqueros on Tuesday, March 17 at 2 p.m.
