Cortes Comes Out of Goal to Lift SAC to 2-2 Tie in OEC Battle Against GWC

SANTA ANA, Calif. - Santa Ana goalkeeper Jorge Cortes did it all on Tuesday afternoon as the freshman from San Clemente played just about 90 minutes in goal before coming out to head a ball into the net to tie the game against the Golden West Rustlers (9-1-7, 5-1-4) in the biggest Orange Empire Conference match of the year.

Before the Cortes goal, the Rustlers looked poised to escape with a win following their own clutch goal just a few minutes earlier. But fittingly, the Dons tied things up to earn their second draw of the season against Golden West.

The match had plenty of excitement with late goals and controversial penalty rekicks, giving the game a playoff atmosphere with regionals being just around the corner.

Santa Ana now controls its destiny with three games left as they find themselves in second place with three games left while the Rustlers have just two but stand at the top of the OEC standings.

If the Dons can run the table, they'll win the title outright and earn an automatic playoff berth with a good chance of hosting in the first round.

Next, SAC will travel to Cypress on Friday for another tough OEC matchup against the Chargers at 3:00 p.m.
