COD Women’s Basketball gets close, falls short in loss to Panthers, 64-56

COD (3-17; 0-6) received a fantastic performance from Geraldine Padua, scoring a season high 22 points, but the visitors would go on an 14-2 run to close out the game and the Roadrunners would fall short to the Chaffey Panthers of Rancho Cucamonga (9-11; 4-1), 64-56.

The Roadrunners did well in the first half, only down by four, 15-11 at the end of one and then shot a very strong 70% from the field in the second quarter to hold that deficit at four at the break, 32-38. Desert came out of the halftime break and lit up the scoreboard, scoring 22 points in the quarter and seizing on a two point lead, 50-48, going into the fourth quarter. But all of a sudden, with 7:01 left the shots stopped falling for the home side. The Roadrunners would hit a couple of free throws, but no more field goals the rest of the contest.

Freshman starting guard Geraldine Padua (Indio Shadow Hills) would lead all scorers with 22 points, on 8 of 13 shooting, going 50% (3 for 6) from beyond 3-point range. The season high of 22 surpasses her previous season high of 21 on at home against Porterville on December 13 during the Desert Winter Classic.

Sophomore starting guard Marisa Givens (Palm Desert H.S.) had a great afternoon with nine total rebounds, tied for her second best output of the season on the boards. She also had her season high in assists, seven and had her second best afternoon of steals, with six.

Freshman center Anastasia Reagins (Palm Springs H.S.) came off of the bench for her 11th double-double of the season, scoring 12 points on 5 of 14 shooting and grabbing 15 total boards, eight of those defensive on the afternoon.
