COD Women’s Volleyball has back-and-forth game with Marauders, winning 3-2

COD (1-0) opened up 2019 with a bang, hosting the season opener and taking five sets to knock off a familiar foe, the Antelope Valley Marauders of Lancaster (0-2), with the Roadrunners taking the game, 3-2 (24-26, 25-16, 24-26, 25-21, 15-4).

Sophomore right side Kendal Campbell-Faynor (White Rock (BC) Semiahoo Secondary) led the team with 4 block assists, tying for the team lead with 3 service aces, grabbing 19 digs and had 8 kills.

Freshman middle blocker Alex Salinas (Palm Springs H.S.) led the team with 3 solo blocks, making 2 block assists and had 9 kills and freshman setter Judy Figueroa (Indio Shadow Hills) led the team with 43 assists and had 12 digs.

College of the Desert has a 22-25 overall record against the Antelope Valley Marauders, with a 13-11 record in the friendly confines of Palm Desert.

Freshman libero Dakota Hansen (Myrtle Beach, SC) led the team with 40 digs and had 2 service aces and freshman defensive specialist Alyssa Johnson (Rancho Mirage H.S.) tied for the team led with 3 service aces and had 11 digs.

Freshman outside hitter Kate Thiem (Indio Shadow Hills) led the team with 14 kills and sophomore middle blocker Aaliyah Muhammad (Los Angeles Westchester) had 3 block assists.

The next game for Desert is on the road against Southwestern on August 31st at 9 a.m., when will compete at the 13th annual Imperial Valley Classic. The next home game for the Roadrunners is on Wednesday, October 16th at 5 p.m., when they open up Inland Empire Athletic Conference play by hosting the Victor Valley Rams.
