Ventura's Talia Lieb and Nell Elaerts advanced in the CCCAA State Singles and Doubles Championships in both draws on Thursday in The Ojai Tournament. The pair posted a victory in the Round of 64 in doubles play after each moved forward with wins in the Round of 64 in singles.
Lieb, the No. 8-seed from SoCal won easily in her first match of the day, 6-0, 6-0 over an opponent from Mt. San Antonio, moving into the Round of 32 Friday.
Elaerts, meanwhile, advanced with an upset victory over the NorCal No. 10-seed from West Valley College, 6-3, 6-3.
In doubles play, Lieb and Elaerts, the No. 5-seed from SoCal, defeated a duo from Imperial Valley in their opening match of the tournament, 6-1, 6-1.
Alexis Schmidt and Elizabeth Nguyen had a victory in the Round of 128 over a team from Reedley, 6-1, 6-3 before falling the the SoCal No. 3-seed from Orange Coast, 6-0, 6-0.
Belladora Moga and Laura Rubio also qualified for The Ojai, dropping their opener on Thursday to the SoCal No. 16-seed from Cypress, 6-0, 6-2.
Women's singles play will continue Friday April 28 with the Rounds of 32 and 16 in the morning before the doubles Rounds of 32 and 16 are completed in the afternoon.
