Athlete of the Month honors bestowed on Brown, Nua
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - El Camino-Compton men's basketball standout Jayvon Brown and Citrus College softball star Jade Nua have been named the CCCAA Athletes of the Month for February, it was announced by the organization on Thursday.
The awards are sponsored by Rally Factory.
For the month of February, Brown averaged 17.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game. He led the Tartars to a 6-1 month. On the first day of the month, Brown posted a career-best 33 points, including the go-ahead driving layup with two seconds remaining at Long Beach.
Brown scored the final eight points in the game for his team. He dished a career-high 10 assists at El Camino on Feb. 10 and pulled down a career-high eight rebounds. Brown earned a career-high four steals at LA Southwest on Feb. 15 in the team's outright conference title clinching win. Brown led the Tartars to their first outright conference title since 2000. He was named the conference’s player of the year.
Nua was arguably the hardest softball player in the state to get out during February. She posted a .655 batting average, .800 on-base percentage, and a monstrous 1.724 slugging percentage, which was the highest in the state at month's end by at least .400 points.
Nua hit seven doubles and a state-leading eight home runs on the month and drove in 27 RBIs. She drew 16 walks, and was hit by pitch five times, striking out just two times in 50 plate appearances. In a doubleheader late in the month, Nua was unstoppable, going 4 for 4 with four home runs, with two to left, one to center, and another to right, driving in 13 RBI and scoring five runs.

MEN'S HONORABLE MENTION
Blake Tuthill, So., Baseball, Riverside City College
In the month of February, Riverside pitcher Blake Tuthill had a record of 5-0 in four starts and one relief appearance. During this span, he pitched 25.1 innings, giving up 10 hits and only four earned runs. In addition, Tuthill only had four walks to his 30 strikeouts and posted an ERA of 1.42.
Jeremy Conant, So., Baseball, Pasadena City College
Pasadena City’s Jeremy batted exactly .500 in the month of February (15 for 30) over nine games as he had five multiple hit games. He added a home run, two doubles and seven RBI. He walked five times and was hit once, and his on-base percentage reached .583 for the month. The state's current leading hitter into March, the lefty-hitting Conant is a returning All-South Coast Conference First Team selection. As a first baseman, the right-handed throwing Conant fielded .986 in the month with just one error in 70 chances. His solid, all-around play helped the Lancers to be selected for the first time in their history on the CCCBCA Region Top 20 rankings at No. 18.
Ian Fox, So., Basketball, Fullerton College
Fullerton guard Ian Fox was a force in community college basketball, leading the Hornets to an Orange Empire Conference Championship and dethroning Saddleback after its five-year reign at the top. Fox was named the OEC Player of the Year and guided Fullerton to the playoffs for the second consecutive year. In six games played during the month of February, Fox scored a total of 107 points (17.8 point average).
Darrel Doll, So., Baseball, Yuba College
Yuba third baseman Darrel Doll hit safely in every game he played in February.He finished the month, going 11 of 22 with five doubles, one home run, six runs scored and eight RBI. He was also named an academic All-American.
WOMEN'S HONORABLE MENTION
Tiffany Kennedy-Cummings, So., Softball, Mt. San Antonio College
The month of February was a spectacular one for Mt. SAC’s Tiffany Kennedy-Cummings. The sophomore pitcher was a main reason why the Mounties were undefeated with an overall record of 19-0 and a 9-0 record in February. During the month, Kennedy-Cummings pitched a total of 26.3 innings, with 33 strikeouts, producing four wins and one save. She only allowed 13 runs with an amazing ERA of 0.53 during the month.
Dayna Manser, Fr. Softball, Cuesta College
Cuesta freshman catcher Dayna Manser has made an immediate impact at the collegiate level. She powered the Cougars’ offense and led the team in all three Triple Crown statistics. In her first 13 games, Manser slugged four home runs, drove in 17 runs and batted at a .528 clip. Her six walks raised her on-base percentage to .695 and her three doubles increased her slugging mark to .944. Manser has also been a key defender for the Cougars. She is Cuesta’s starting backstop, but has also played three games in centerfield. Cuesta softball began the season with a 10-4 mark and was in first place in the Western State Conference at the end of the month.
Courtney Beatty, So., Softball, Cosumnes River College
SophomoreIn a seven-game stretch, Courtney Beatty hit .583, had 18 RBI scored 10 runs hit three home runs and caughtall 46 innings. Her team was 6-1 over the stretch.
